The summer youth program with Hope CDA is a six-week program that focuses on building well-rounded community leaders. Each week has a topic and they include:

  • Building Character & Unlocking Potential– This week will be facilitated by the YMCA of the Gulf Coast. They will teach daily workshops on trustworthiness, self-esteem, responsibility, respect, citizenship, integrity, anger management, abstinence, & consequences.
  • Building Strength & Awareness - This week focuses on Health education and has asked a local trainer to bring his youth challenge program to the youth and conduct an obstacle course and have a competition at the end of the week. This week would have a 1 or 2 day workshop on health awareness and maybe provide health assessments & screenings for the youth.
  • Building Power & Financial Stability- During this period, we will have two weeks of financial education and projects and will also teach the youth about the political system on the local, state and federal level and will attend a city council meeting.
  • Building Pride-This week will focus on getting the youth involved in coming up with solutions to problems in the community. They will develop service projects that will address their issues and figure out how to implement them.
  • Building Community-This week will focus on taking all the ideas sparked and developed in the previous week and implementing them in the community. The youth will be judged on the project and have an opportunity to win valuable prizes. This will also allow the residents in the community to participate the projects.
