Description of Program Activities
Weeks 1&2- Building Character & Unlocking Potential (June 4-8 & June 11-15) – Activities will be facilitated by the YMCA of the Gulf Coast. They will teach daily workshops on trustworthiness, self-esteem, responsibility, respect, citizenship, integrity, anger management, abstinence, & consequences.
Weeks 3&4- Building Strength & Awareness (June 18–22 & June 25-29) - Activities will focus on Health education. A local trainer will administer his youth challenge program to the campers. Campers will participate in an obstacle course and fitness competition at the end of the week. During these weeks, we will have a 1 or 2 day workshop on health awareness and may provide health assessments & screenings for the campers.
Weeks 5 & 6- Building Power & Financial Stability (July 2-6 & July 9-13) - During this period, campers will receive two weeks of financial education and develop projects. Campers will also learn about the local, state, and federal levels of the political system and will attend a city council meeting.
Week 7 – Building Pride (July 16–20) - Activities will focus on getting the campers involved in identifying and developing solutions to problems in the community. They will develop service projects that will address their issues and figure out how to implement them.
Weeks 8 & 9 – Building Community (July 23-27 & July 30, 31) -This section will focus on taking all the ideas sparked and developed in the previous weeks and implementing them in the community. The campers will participate in various community service projects
