Home Maintenance Program

Hope CDA Home Maintenance Workshop is a highly comprehensive and interactive “hands-on” maintenance class held in Hope CDA Maintenance Workshop.  The program is designed to provide hands-on experience and education that will prepare homeowners to make minor repairs around the house and accumulate practical knowledge prior to applying techniques.  All homeowners are eligible to participate in Hope CDA HMP regardless of their income.

The Home Maintenance Beginner Workshop, an 8 hour class, includes:

  • Use of hand and power tools safely.
  • Repair of holes/patches, prep surface for painting walls.
  • Perform basic plumbing – Learn how the systems operate and how to replace/repair faucets, sinks, toilets, and turning water valves off (inside and out)
  • Basic Electrical Repair – Learn basics of electrical safety, how/where to hang pictures, switch box (label, etc.)
  • Safety – Includes topics such as fire prevention/extinguishers, safety alarm, how to prepare a home safety plan, hurricane kit, crime prevention and more
  • Representatives from local power company, police/fire department.
  • How to select and work with contractors.
  • Preparation for a contract agreement with hired contractors.

Each class will cost $35.00 or $30.00 with a coupon (early registration).  A Homeowner’s Manual, prepared by Hope CDA of Biloxi, housing department, is provided to all participants for $10 per copy.  The manual is an all inclusive guide to being a homeowner and is designed to correspond with the hands-on workshop. Registration is required and open to persons 18 years and older.  A non-refundable fee is payable upon registration.  Door prizes and certificates will be issued after completion on program.

Homeowners attain:

  • Better understanding of their home’s major system and maintenance of the same.
  • Confidence necessary to attempt and complete do-it-yourself projects or hire out when beyond capabilities.
  • Financial savings through early intervention repairs and/or maintenance and better ability to budget for those repairs.
  • Empowerment to continue education and remain a “healthy homeowner”.

Hope CDA also offers a Senior Maintenance Program (60+). This program is designed to help senior citizens maintain their independent life styles and to improve the appearance of their city and its neighborhood. Workshops held on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
