What is Financial Literacy?  How Hope CDA Can Help?

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has defined financial literacy as “The ability to understand financial choices, plan for the future, spend wisely, and manage the challenges that come with life events such as saving for retirement, job loss, or a child’s education”.  Not only does financial education help families become more aware of common pitfalls and how to avoid them,  it can also help them become more aware of common challenges, including loan  modification scams and predatory lending practices, and how to avoid them.  In today’s economy, millions of Americans are unable to cover their basic living expenses, let alone pay off debt.  So many expenses, but few dollars saved. That’s the dilemma faced by many adults today. Financial difficulties may lead to greater use of credit cards, cash advance loans, or other high cost options.

Hope CDA, a nonprofit agency, is committed to helping individuals and families take control of their financial future by developing sound money management skills and achieving financial security.

Hope CDA’s commitment is to:

  • Help individuals understand the importance of financial education, become more aware of and have access to effective financial education.
  • Provide a program that will teach individuals how to make wise and informed financial decisions and avoid pitfalls.
  • Promote opportunities for partnership and information sharing.
  • Educate on how to maintain and sustain a budget/finances.
  • Educate on how to avoid delinquency and foreclosures.
  • Provide an effective program that will help individuals and families to improve their present and long-term financial well-being.
  • Improve the overall credit health of individuals and families.
